The Various Shades of George Bernard Shaw Free Essays
Point 1: What is Andragogy and how is it applicable to preparing and advancement? Andragogy is the term used to depict ââ¬Ëthe workmanship and study of instructing adultsââ¬â¢ (Delahaye, 2011). It centers around the post-school professional training, where the grown-ups adapting needs are the principle significance and furthermore ought to permit them to assume liability for their own learning (Delahaye, 2011). In this sense, the contrasts among andragogy and teaching method are identified with the manner in which substance is instructed, yet in addition the movement of learning. We will compose a custom paper test on The Various Shades of George Bernard Shaw or on the other hand any comparative theme just for you Request Now Andragogy is applicable to preparing and improvement as worries with the viable issues of coaches are appearing comparable to a compelling method of utilizing assets and the most reasonable preparing strategies (Jones, 1980). Consequently, as advances in information are expanding, preparing and improvement programs should be continually changed and kept up to guarantee that workers (grown-ups) are handling this data. Andragogy is conceptualized in writing through directing examination to address what precisely is andragogy and what are the primary issues in understanding to preparing and advancement. According to police preparing and advancement, cops esteemed four particular regions â⬠commitment, reasonableness, connection, and productivity (Olivia, 2009). Right off the bat, cops esteemed study halls that were ââ¬Ëinteresting and inspiringââ¬â¢ (Olivia, 2009), as they favored coaches who were eager and drawn in their understudies. Cops additionally favored the substance being conveyed that can be applied to their own genuine encounters at work. Officials truly stressed the significance of the homeroom condition corresponding to social communication and study hall format. Cops that were associated with the preparation and improvement meeting needed an opportunity to interface with others, including the coach. This took into consideration them to gain from eachothersââ¬â¢ encounters (Olivia, 2009). It was likewise announced that the study hall ought to be spread out in a way that gives the mentor the chance to convey the substance in a ââ¬Ëefficient and compelling mannerââ¬â¢ (Olivia, 2009). They favored classes that were very much overseen corresponding to the timeframe. In this manner, it is shown in exploration and results that andragogy is about the inspiration and inclinations of the understudy. It is likewise referenced that andragogy is ââ¬Ëa learning hypothesis, not an educating theoryââ¬â¢ (Mc Auliffe, 2009). Andragogy is clarified through the ââ¬Ëandragogical modelââ¬â¢ made by Knowles (Mc Auliffe, 2009). This model tends to the issues on the learning procedure of grown-ups. There are four issues that make up this model. Initially, it is essential to disclose to the understudy why they have to become familiar with a specific theme. Besides, the mentor needs to tell the student the best way to guide themselves through the substance, with the goal that they can assume liability and be propelled to learn. The substance additionally needs to empower the understudy to have the option to relate their own understanding to the segments being conveyed. A grown-up student needs to have a ââ¬Ëlife-focused, task-focused or issue centeredââ¬â¢ (Mc Auliffe, 2009). Grown-ups want to realize when they are prepared and persuaded to do as such. Through directing exploration and returning to the expressions of scholastics, it is clarified in writing what andragogy is (from a functional perspective) and its articulate most significance in preparing and improvement programs. There are numerous contrasts among andragogy and the manner in which kids learn. They vary corresponding to specific attributes about learning. For instance, the need to know, the learnerââ¬â¢s self-idea, the job of understanding, the status to learn, the direction to learning and inspiration (Delahaye, 2011). It is indicated that kids are being coddled content in a controlled domain, where they are more affected by outside variables. In andragogy, it is about the necessities, the encounters and self-inspirational variables of the grown-up. For differentiate, the instructive model created by Knowles (Mc Auliffe, 2009) included the correspondence of information and abilities, where ââ¬Ëthe educator chooses ahead of time what information or expertise should be transmittedââ¬â¢ (Mc Auliffe, 2009). It is then that it is up to the educator when and how data will be instructed. Instructional method is a showing hypothesis, not a learning one (Mc Auliffe, 2009). Andragogy is in this manner the change from school training to post-school instruction. Andragogical standards is a procedure of giving methods and applicable assets to assist grown-ups with getting the information and abilities and furthermore permit the mentor to get ready to include them in the learning procedure. In this way for grown-ups to create on their aptitudes and information, it is significant that they need to learn and are persuaded to do as such. Without this, there would be no movement. Regarding the structure of the instructional exercise instructional course, I accept that andragogy will be valuable. In a study hall, at one point in class, a dominant part of the gathering get ââ¬Ëboredââ¬â¢ and float off in their own reality. So accordingly, it is critical to guarantee to think of an action that everybody can mess around with and would need to take an interest in. With the significance of guaranteeing that understudies know why the need to realize, how they will approach learning and the measure of comparability to their past encounters, the instructional course should be something that everybody can identify with. Everybody should be associated with the way toward learning the ideal information and aptitudes. Andragogy is about the way of life, frameworks and structures that make up the grown-up learning condition (Nicholas, 2008), which is key for a fruitful instructional course. All in all, Andragogy is about the requirements and encounters of the learning procedure of the grown-up. It rises above from instructional method, it might be said that the taking in process has moved concentration from a coddled controlled condition, to an alternate domain where the movement of learning is the studentââ¬â¢s obligation. This is applicable and imperative to preparing and advancement, in light of the fact that, in all actuality, grown-ups can't be coddled the information and abilities required in the workplace. They should be progressively inspired and be educated regarding the reasons and techniques of preparing and advancement programs so as to advance and acknowledge that they have to learn. The exchange connection between the European Union and China is one that has existed for quite a while at this point. In any case, this relationship is one that has had a lot of contentions in the course of recent years or somewhere in the vicinity, concerning the volumes exchanged between the two locales. Since China entered the WTO in December 2001, exchange hindrances among China and the European were expelled so as to improve exchange between the two. In any case, the material and garments item volumes that were sent out from China to the EU started harming the household showcases in the EU. It was because of this event that the EU chose to re-apply shares on China. As per WTO standards, this is clear infringement of a creating countryââ¬â¢s items. Notwithstanding, when China entered the WTO, the understanding attested that a part may re-force shares on China for one year if that memberââ¬â¢s markets were being harmed through Chinaââ¬â¢s send out volumes of material and garments items. With expanded accentuation lately on factors like organized commerce, itââ¬â¢s essential to comprehend the relationship that has won among China and the European Union. Furthermore, it is critical to comprehend why there may have been changes in this involved acquaintance throughout the years. All the more critically, it important to researchers and every one of those related with global business that the purposes behind ongoing changes in the relationship. These progressions remember the Imposing standards for the Chinese material industry. Research Question Considering the connection between the Chinese and the European Union being concentrated in this paper, there are a few subtleties that will be uncovered. Be that as it may, the primary inquiry that will be managed incorporates the accompanying: Is it reasonable and in light of a legitimate concern with the expectation of complimentary exchange and rivalry for thee to force standards on the Chinese material industry or is the EU liable of protectionism? So as to address this inquiry, there should be nitty gritty investigation of important information regarding this matter. In any case, there is have to investigate all appropriate issue regarding this matter, which will be managed in the accompanying segment of this paper: Since innovative progressions have advanced progressively viable correspondence around the globe, universal business has been extraordinarily encouraged. Numerous economies have developed because of better correspondence. The European Union and especially China have enhanced their methods for business in view of viable correspondence. Unquestionably, these compelling methods have improved the speed with which exchange has occurred. More extravagant nations, similar to those in the European Union, have had the capital in to put resources into adventures over the globe, and have in this way flourished of different markets . China on its part has been confronted with the need of staying up with the latest its specialized techniques and frameworks. This has been one of the reason for worry in the previous not many years, as China is a significant player in universal exchange. Organizations that were recently constrained to UK markets have been reached out to different places the world over, because of globalization. Items that were openly accessible in one piece of the world were handily spread into a few others. The aftereffect of this was more noteworthy inundation of income earned, and the head working office or store would profit in its unique area. This is consistent with state fork or US foundations that had chains in business sectors where work is modest. Positively, with the bit of leeway that chain store gave organizations, itââ¬â¢s no big surprise why this case of worldwide business has been feature in the exchange field. Notwithstanding chain stores being worthwhile gaining openings, there are a few different open doors that have risen . As far as thinking about monetary conditions, it very well may be declared that globalization has introduced organizations in nations like the UK and US with abundant open door for redistributing work. This is a significant normal pattern now as there are markets accessible to nations like the UK that have less expensive work. Re-appropriating to places like India is regular today since UK organizations are known to spare a lot of income. They need not employ laborers in the UK since they are all the more exorbitant rather than recruiting them in India. In opportunity to arrive, more and organizations will be led along these lines through employing work outside teak where it is less expensive. Along these lines, it tends to be attested that International Business is required to experience more changes in opportunity to arrive. This is a result of the way that organizations are still during the time spent understanding the extent of benefits that can be earned. China is another nation that has figured out how to take its items to different locales, is still during the time spent enhancing its specialized techniques. In any case, it doesn't confront critical hindrances in such manner. Innovative Developments that Impact Business Today: There are a few reasons why some may accept that universal business is changed by innovation. This is maybe on the grounds that the reasons for this are increasingly apparent in their physical structure. Advancements, for example, Mastercards, swipe machines and web based business innovation, and so on., are not many of the things that are actualized as a major aspect of ordinary business (Kennedy,2000, 34-9). With the utilization of Visas, one can make a worldwide business exchange. There is no compelling reason to head out to various pieces of the world to get a specific item. Items that are reasonable, similar to ones from China, would now be able to be bought while one sits at home [Taylor, 2002, 28]. Merchandise of different sorts are accessible through the Internet, and nations like China with a mass of items can serve one in practically any piece of the world. This is conceivable on account of items being accessible through the Internet and through installment with a Visa, and so on. Here, one can perceive how significant the foundation of the Internet has been in advancing global business as well. The Internet is at the focal point of innovation just as monetary and political conditions as well, and it is quite often thought about when controls are being settled on with respect to defending worldwide business. This alludes to the way that organizations are known to trade essential information across it during exchanges or different types of correspondence through it (Kennedy, 2000, 34-9). Likewise identified with the Internet-based innovation is media transmission that has been changed as well. This sort of innovation has made things increasingly helpful for business people in various pieces of the world. Nations like China have been attempting to ensure their frameworks are cutting-edge and equipped for meeting prerequisites of exchanging accomplices like the EU. Today, rather than specialists meeting face to face, they just have online gatherings and discussions. Indeed, even preceding marking contracts and proceeding with business bargains, these types of relating are ending up being fruitful. China is no more unusual to these types of correspondence (Kennedy, 2000, 34-9). The Trade Relationship between the European Union and China: Exchange relations between various nations are significant as they each structure a piece of a bigger exchange condition. Considering the China-European Union exchange relationship, it very well may be stated that this exchange relationship to be sure forma a huge piece of the general exchange condition. This is a direct result of the way that China is third on the rundown of nations that the European Union exchanges with. What might be viewed as increasingly huge is the way that this exchange relationship is one that has a long history to it, and has seen three distinct stages. Another fascinating actuality to note is that fare and import volumes have consistently been on the ascent between these two nations throughout the years regardless of obstructions coming in the middle of these nations. The three phases through which the China and European Union exchange relationship has experienced is as per the following: 1. Western shunning/Chinese independence, 1949-1959; 2. Expanding two-sided exchange improvement/low clash levels, 1960-1988; and 3. EU-level exchange approach/dangerous

Determine Concentration and Molarity
Molarity is one of the most common and important units of concentration used in chemistry. This concentration problem illustrates how to find the molarity of a solution if you know how much solute and solvent are present. Concentration and Molarity Example Problem Determine the molarity of a solution made by dissolving 20.0 g of NaOH in sufficient water to yield a 482 cm3 solution. How to Solve the Problem Molarity is an expression of the moles of solute (NaOH) per liter of solution (water). To work this problem, you need to be able to calculate the number of moles of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and be able to convert cubic centimeters of a solution into liters. You can refer to the Worked Unit Conversions if you need more help. Step 1 Calculate the number of moles of NaOH that are in 20.0 grams. Look up the atomic masses for the elements in NaOH from the Periodic Table. The atomic masses are found to be: Na is 23.0H is 1.0O is 16.0 Plugging these values: 1 mol NaOH weighs 23.0 g 16.0 g 1.0 g 40.0 g So the number of moles in 20.0 g is: moles NaOH 20.0 g Ãâ" 1 mol/40.0 g 0.500 mol Step 2 Determine the volume of solution in liters. 1 liter is 1000 cm3, so the volume of solution is: liters solution 482 cm3 Ãâ" 1 liter/1000 cm3 0.482 liter Step 3 Determine the molarity of the solution. Simply divide the number of moles by the volume of solution to get the molarity: molarity 0.500 mol / 0.482 litermolarity 1.04 mol/liter 1.04 M Answer The molarity of a solution made by dissolving 20.0 g of NaOH to make a 482 cm3 solution is 1.04 M Tips for Solving Concentration Problems In this example, the solute (sodium hydroxide) and solvent (water) were identified. You may not always be told which chemical is the solute and which is the solvent. Often the solute is a solid, while the solvent is a liquid. Its also possible to make up solutions of gases and solids or of liquid solutes in liquid solvents.Ã In general, the solute is the chemical (or chemicals) present in smaller amounts. The solvent makes up most of the solution.Ã Molarity is concerned with the total volume of the solution, not the volume of the solvent. You can approximate molarity by dividing moles of solute by volume of solvent that is added, but this isnt correct and can lead to significant error when a large amount of solute is present.Significant figures can also come into play when reporting concentration in molarity. There will be a degree of uncertainty in the mass measurement of the solute. An analytical balance will yield a more precise measurement than weighing on a kitchen scale, fo r example. The glassware used to measure the volume of solvent also matters. A volumetric flask or graduated cylinder will yield a more precise value than a beaker, for example. Theres also an error in reading the volume, relating to the meniscus of the liquid. The number of significant digits in your molarity is only as many as that in your least precise measurement.

The Ugly Young Age Of Age Essay - 1205 Words
About a month ago I did not notice anything out of the ordinary in my everyday life on the subject of gender. Yes there have always been jokes about the womenââ¬â¢s place being in the kitchen and men getting all sorts of privilege, but I never really thought too hard about it because it was never anything new. Once my attention was brought to this subject and I was told to delve deeper into the super weird societal gender norms, my eyes were opened to so many new and fairly disturbing occurrences. It was actually quite overwhelming. I did not know how to process everything and in a way my mind wanted to reject these happenings because it just seemed so sick and twisted, but I was accustomed to all of it and frankly, I did not want to be wrong or change my way of thinking. Fortunately, it was inevitable and I notice these bizarre gender labels and stereotypes everywhere I look from now on. Especially in my marriage. I was married at the astonishing young age of 17 which does no t help my case for gender stereotypes. I am now labeled as that naive girl who let a man take control of her life because I ââ¬Å"thoughtâ⬠I was in love. Of course I do not see any truth in that, but I do see truth in several other gender stereotypes. My wifely duties are the typical do the laundry, cook dinner, and clean up the house. Iq Testing (594 words) Essay Example For Students
Iq Testing (594 words) Essay Iq TestingEdu psy 115 Individual differences There have been many studies of IQ measurement. Some believe in testing and then looking at biology or heritage of the child. These people also like to use statistics to try to put some sort of explanation on IQ levels. Then there are other groups that use cultural ecology. They study IQ by what effect the environment has on a child, and feel testing it is unfair to the child. The problem is that these two groups rarely come together to help each other. So there are big questions as to what IQ really is and how it should be measured. ââ¬Å" At the very least, intelligence can be defined as the ability for complex thinking and reasoning.â⬠Pg 47,Ceci, Ph.D. One thing shows in studies that intelligence can depend on the situation. A person can be a great thinker at the horse race and make a lot of money. But the same person would not begin to understand how Wall Street works. The major points of the article began with asking the reader to glance at a couple of diagrams on the page . The higher your IQ is the faster you can recognize the hidden character in the diagram. The second was IQ is affected by school attendance. The author felt that having a high IQ would influence a personââ¬â¢s decision to continue their education. But staying in school itself will elevate a persons IQ. Whenever a person decides not to stimulate themselves intellectually their IQ will fall. Even the few months over summer break students IQs go down. The third point was that IQ is not influenced by birth order. There was a notion for a number of years that the first-born was more intelligent, than the later siblings. This is not true, the fact is that people with higher IQs tend to have less children. This is because of the number of years spent in furthering their education; during the time they would be having children. So a familyââ¬â¢s size does influence the IQ of the individual. The fourth point is IQ related to breast-feeding. Studies have shown that breast-feeding increases a child IQ points by 3-8 points by the age of three. It is felt that breast-feeding increases the immune system, and allows more energy to be put into the nervous system. This may make learning at an early age more likely. Studies have also shown that IQ points have risen by around 20 points a generation. If a child of today were given an IQ test from fifty years ago they would score at a genius level. While the IQ test of today would make the child of fifty years ago look ââ¬Å" borderline mentally retarded.â⬠Pg 50, Ceci Ph.D. This is not a genetic effect as much as an environmental effect. A child born today has better nutrition, more schooling, and a better education system. That includes state of the art computers, and the ability to find information in seconds. Doctor Stephan Ceci, Ph. D. is a very intelligent man and has many good points in this article. I really enjoyed reading about his take on the measurement of IQ. What I really liked was the way he considered many different sources, and never disregarded a theory because he disagreed. What I take away from this article is that everyone has the potential for greatness. It is only up to the individual how far they want to achieve. Psychology Essays

Anthem Essays (745 words) - Anthem, Egalitarianism,
Anthem A young man lives in a place where the word "I" does not have meaning. It is a society where there are no individuals. It is, however, a place where you strive to serve your brothers. Equality 7-2521 was taught from birth that the individual is not important. He is in a crazed society where the only form of government is collectivism. Equality, at age 21, has absolutely no freedom. He is a a strong, tall young man who stands about six feet. However, in this society, anyone who is six feet tall was considered to be evil. His dream of going to the House of Scholars is lost and he is sent to the Hose of Street Sweepers instead. Here the rules are very strict. He is not allowed to laugh or sing for any reason. These are a couple of hardships that Equality has to face so far in this mixed up society. His troubles get greater and greater until finally he does something about it. All through his life, Equality thinks he is not capable of accomplishing anything. Through time though, he discovers that he is capable of doing many things by himself and more importantly that he is an individual. When he is in the tunnel, he discovers a light. This provides him with the confidence that he is able to do things. Other experiences, such as falling in love with Liberty and seeing his reflection in the pond also help him to believe in himself as a strong individual. Equality later realizes that he has commited sins as he was growing up. He thinks by showing his invention to the House of Scholars that he would be forgiven for his wrongdoings. He hopes to show his invention to society and find a way into the House of the Scholars. He also wants to prove that being tall does not make you an evil individual. He feels that he has sinned because he was sent to the Palace of Corrective Detention when he did not reveal where he has been. He wishes to be forgiven for being sent there. Even though entering the tunnel is against the law, he feels that he is going to discover things that would improve the society that he is living in. Equality tries to get the House of Scholars to accept him for the last time. He finds out when and where they are going to meet and devises a plan. He decides to escape from the Palace of Corrective Detention and go to where the meeting is being held. He arrives at the Council of Scholars and look at him in astonishment. The members are afraid at first because they do not know exactly what Equality is presenting to them. After they realize what it is that Equality is showing them, they are very insulted that a mere street sweeper was belittling their intelligence as Council members. Upon hearing that his idea is rejected, he leaps out the window and runs to the Uncharted Forest where no man survives. He finds out that Liberty has followed him into the forest. They come together and find an abandoned house. They enter it and see things that they have never seen before. They find clothes, 2 beds in one room, and one thing that shocked them the most, a mirror. After looking at the mirror, he now knows for sure that he is an individual. He now understands that the word "I" that he had learned from the manuscripts of the Unmentionable Times has meaning. He knows that he lives for himself and not for others. He realizes that he is his own self and he determines his own fate. He then changes his name to Promethus which is a Greek God who stole the light of the 600's and gave it to man. Promethus had suffered just as Equality had, and Equality admired him very much and chose his name to be his own. Liberty also changed her name. Equality gave her the name Gaea after the Greek Goddess who was the mother of earth and all the God's. Gaea becomes pregnant and they both decide to raise their child as an individual and to never let it experience the hardships they had faced in the crazed society of Collectivism. Equality makes it his duty to rescue the other friends he had left behind. He feels that they deserve the same freedom that he is now experiencing. He plans to "save all

Free Essays on The Heiress
The Heiress "The Heiress" written by Ruth and Augustus Goetz displays many examples of Aristotleââ¬â¢s six elements. Poetics outlines the six elements which are: plot, characters, thought, diction, music (or sound), and spectacle, all of which were present in this play. "The Heiress" is a play about a young woman living in New York with her father. One day she gets a ââ¬Å"gentlemen callerâ⬠who, after two weeks time, ends up asking her to marry him. The young woman, named Catherine Sloper, is set to inherit an unordinary amount of money after her father passes away. The father, Dr. Austin Slope, is immediately suspicious of the gentleman caller, Morris Townsend. Dr. Sloper thinks, because of the short period and Morris Townsendââ¬â¢s lack of money that Townsend may not want to marry Catherine for love. As it turns out, Dr. Sloper is right, Catherine gets her heart broken and the dad dies. The theme of the play seemed to be one of coming of age. Catherine Sloper was extremely naà ¯ve and not a ââ¬Å"people personâ⬠in the least during the beginning of the play. By the end she is cold and in charge, not afraid to be thought down upon. The acting and lines were very good, especially for a small theater, with the exception of Tim Murphy, (Dr. Sloper) who dropped quite a few lines over the course of the play. The sound effects were subtle and not overdone. The Heiress had amazing costumes and the props worked well. Overall, I thought Judy Madden, the director, did a great job with the cast and play. The play was done well for such a small theater on a tight budget. "The Heiress" was enjoyable and I would recommend it to any that ask.... Three Level Architecture - Essay Example In this section I will present some of major objectives of the three levels of the database architecture. The DBA is able to transform the structure of database, for example without altering the software program for example external schema. Every user is able to access the data as of his/her necessities. Users are sovereign of the storage issues similar to indexing limitations etc of the database. The conceptual architecture of the database has no influence because of the transform of the physical storage systems. The External LevelThe external level is one near to users. That is the one associate with the mode in which the data is observed through particular users. At the external level the DBMS outlines every user by means of a shared or particular view or representation of the data. There are numerous views of the information and data at this phase, as well as every view is an illustration of fraction of the whole database. A view permits a client access to their part of the databa se, as well as shields the remaining database from them. Every external view is described through means of an external representation, that composed of fundamentally of descriptions of all of variety of kinds of outer record discovered that external view. Concepts - Essay Example The references that will be used are from Zen studies and its philosophical concepts, and also the famed work of Japanââ¬â¢s famed swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. Zen is the Japanese name of schools that belong to Mahayana Buddhism. Zen emphasizes the role of sitting meditation in pursuing enlightenment for the benefit of others, thus emphasizing compassion. Though considered simply a practice by most of its Western practitioners, Zen is in fact nothing less than a school of Buddhism; thus, it can even be considered a religion. It was only during the last century or so that Zen began to be viewed by Westerners as a philosophy, a way of life, a part of work, an art form, among others. Satori is a Zen philosophical term for reaching enlightenment. The word literally means "to understand." To emphasize further, it refers to "deep" or lasting enlightenment. Satori can be found in all life experiences for it is wrapped in all daily activities. Hence, the goal is to unwrap the meaning behind each moment in able to attain satori. Ross (1960) posited that the ââ¬Å"awakening of Zen is satori, and the satori of Zen is recognizing the real noumenon of a person, his original feature, not necessarily recognizing the real substance of various actsâ⬠(p.45). The Zen Buddhist experience commonly recognizes enlightenment as a transitory thing in life, which is similar to the English term epiphany, and satori is the realization of a state of such epiphany as enlightenment. Since all things are regarded as transitory according to Zen philosophy, the transitory nature of satori is not limiting. On the contrary, such epiphany has a tremendous effect on Western philosophical u nderstanding of enlightenment. The transitory nature of satori owes much to the influences of Taoism on Chan Buddhism in China, from which the Japanese Zen came from. Taoism is a mystical philosophy that emphasizes the purity and importance of the moment. This emphasis on the importance of

Family contribution to social stability
Family contribution to social stability Family contribution to social stability Social stability entails state of completeness, where life is balanced in terms of good wages, lifestyle, amenities, freedom and prosperity. The family as an institution can contribute highly into this state of life through several ways. Programs such as family-life ambassadors can help insert skills into families, in an attempt to cultivate social stability (Wardle, 2002). Other programs such as family-life champions or organized family talks, resource speakers and school family education may assist in instilling vital skills needed in establishing social stability in families. For instance, school family education, may assist parents to acquire reliable skills in family running. Another way that families have contributed to social stability is by holding religious values with high esteem. As such people are equipped with Godly values which promote social stability by enhancing disciplinary virtues drawn from religious living. For example, an individual positive behavior is enhanced by the religious doctrines or even life virtues. Similarly, family strength and unity is highly upheld. Under British lifestyle, religious based individuals most probably have stable marriages, report low levels of divorce and singlehood (Melin Blom, 2000). This will instigate marriage satisfaction, hence high marital stability and low poverty levels are witnessed. Morality and sound thinking is highly promoted by religious beliefs, reducing deviant behaviors such as suicide, drug abuse, teenage pregnancies and sexual permissiveness, among others. A family as an institution in the society provides a reliable home for growing children. It provides shelter, food, clothing and other social needs. When this is done, the possibility of children growing to be undisciplined is low, since they have a place to belong to and have almost everything that they require. For instance, in the case of street children, they will tend to engage in criminal activities such as smuggling and robbery among others, and this may lead to social instability .Such children need to be offered a place to belong to through proper care by possibly adoption procedures. For example, In Britain family stability has reported continuous decline such that children and adults are always faced with fractured or dysfunctional families thus instigating the possibility if having unstable society. About 15% of all babies born in conservative culture in Britain are brought-up with no resident father (Wardle, 2002). In this case, parenting education and relationship progr ams may assist in social stability .Other approaches may include raising UKs care incentives in a bid to motivate the child caretakers to positively bring-up the children in socially acceptable ways. If such positive upbringing fails, the parentless children are likely into various social evils thus destabilizing social stability. In addition, if the government is to support these children a lot of funds may be expended in rehabilitation centers in stead of instituting social development programs beneficial in stabilizing the wellbeing of the entire society. Economically, the wealth of a country is highly dependant on the family, in terms of the human capital (Melin Blom, 2000). Strength of the economy highly depends on family stability because of the social ethical basis taught through social virtues and values. This way the entire family plays a vital role in stabilizing the society both economically as well as morally or socially. In conclusion, family cohesiveness and moral strength is a high contributor to social stability. Positive parenting, various education programs at family level, role modeling and social awareness created at family level enhances social stability. A family also contributes to the labor mobility behaviors as a result of its effects on employment levels thus averting social instability associated with unemployment issues. The Meaning of Community :: Definition Essays Community
The Meaning of Community Community is defined in two different ways. The Universal English Dictionary describes a community as 'a society or body of persons living in the same place, having the same rights, privileges, and interests, and acknowledging the same laws.' Another definition by the Oxford English Dictionary describes it as 'common character or commonness.' Even though these are different ways to describe this word, their meanings are quite similar and are used greatly in their own ways with everyday life. Looking at the definitions and comparing it to how it is used in everyday life and conversation, there is not much of a difference between them. People use the word ?community? to describe the area where they live and what they can and cannot do in their community. The rules, regulations, and privileges are the same in their community just as described in the definitions. After reviewing what the word actually means, a main thing that sticks out would have to be that a community of people has "rules and privileges that must be followed and obeyed by everyone" (Merriam-Webster). It is almost as if it has its own little ?government? that sets standards and regulations for the people to follow. However, something that may have already been known would be the description of common character or commonness. A community has to have these things in order for peace and happiness to survive. Projects and readings for the class help with the understanding of a community. Working on the project is almost like working in a community with the rules and deadlines that must be followed and done properly. There have been readings about people working on, or helping with, communities if it needs help on certain issues. Fall of Enron
Q1- Who were the key stakeholders involved in, or affected by the collapse of Enron? How and to what degree were they hurt or helped by the actions of Enron management? Ans- The key stakeholders affected by the collapse of Enron were its employees and retirees. Stakeholders and mutual funds investors lost $ 70billion market value. Banks were also affected by the meltdown of the company. They included big banks like J P Morgan Chase and Citigroup. Not only the stakeholder and bondholder lose out, the confidence in the company also fell. This was the major setback for the company. The actions of Enron management left a deep scare for its 4000 employees which lost out their jobs and also impacted others around them. Some blamed Arthur Andersen; Enronââ¬â¢s accounting firm and some blame the board of directors for insufficient oversights. The damage was so big that it was likely to take years for the court to sort the wreckage. The company did not think of its future and took many bad steps just to earn money. The CEO should have looked into the company matters long time ago and took action so that hundreds of jobs could have been saved. The companies who were associated with the big firm were affected on a very large scale. This was the biggest bankruptcy of a firm with $63.4 billion in assets. Q2- Considering all aspects of the case, what factor or factors do you believe most contributed to the collapse of Enron? In your answer, please consider both external and internal factors. Ans ââ¬âEnronââ¬â¢s non transparent financial statements did not clearly depict its operations and finances with shareholders and analysts. The company started manipulating the revenue figures. Enron used many methods to make the companies condition look better by starting different accounting practices. They also broke the legal and ethical integrity of the company by overseeing the companyââ¬â¢s financial reports. Even supporting the political parties didnââ¬â¢t help them. They had a complex business model and they misrepresented their financial status to the public so that they can have a better position in the eyes of the public and earn money on basis of that. All the above issues that led to the bankruptcy of the company were perpetuated by the actions of Lay, Skilling, Fastow and other executives. They all led to the collapse of the company. Lay did not enquire about the decisions that Skilling and Fastow were taking. He just approved to everything that they kept in front of him. Skilling always wanted to keep up to the Wall Street expectations and for this he gave pressure on his executives to find new was to hide the dept. This was the major setback for the company as they didnââ¬â¢t know that in future everything was going to come out and it would have led to bad consequences. Lay did not enquire about all this and approved of all the work Skilling was doing. Q3- What steps should be taken now by corporate managers, stakeholders, and policy makers to prevent a similar event from occurring in the future? Ans- People should not lie about the companyââ¬â¢s financial status just to bring it up In the market. Eventually the truth is going to come out one day or the other. Auditors should properly keep track of the finances. Managers, stakeholders and directors should be aware of everything that is happening in the company. Policy makers should think about what steps they are taking and how it will affect other people lives. They should not make policies for the benefits of the big companies who give them finances for their political endeavours. Updated case: Many executives at Enron were indicated of variety of charges and then sentence to prison. Enronââ¬â¢s auditors, Arthur Anderson, was found guilty in a united states district court, but by the time the ruling was over turned at the US supreme court, the firm has lost most of its customers and had to shut down. Employees and shareholders received limited returns in the lawsuits they filed. As a consequence of the scandal, new regulations and legislation were enacted to expand the accuracy of financial reporting for public companies. Special purpose entities Enron used special purpose entitiesââ¬âlimited partnerships or companies created to fulfil a temporary or specific purposeââ¬âto fund or manage risks associated with specific assets. The company elected to disclose minimal details on its use of special purpose entities. These shell firms were created by a sponsor, but funded by independent equity investors and debt financing. For financial reporting purposes, a series of rules dictates whether a special purpose entity is a separate entity from the sponsor. In total, by 2001, Enron had used hundreds of special purpose entities to hide its debt. The special purpose entities were used for more than just circumventing accounting conventions. As a result of one violation, Enron's balance sheet understated its liabilities and overstated its equity, and its earnings were overstated. Enron disclosed to its shareholders that it had hedged downside risk in its own illiquid investments using special purpose entities. However, the investors were oblivious to the fact that the special purpose entities were actually using the company's own stock and financial guarantees to finance these hedges. This setup prevented Enron from being protected from the downside risk. Notable examples of special purpose entities that Enron employed were JEDI and Chewco, Whitewing, and LJM. The justices agreed to look at two issues in the appeal of Mr. Skilling's 2006 conviction that could have broader repercussions, say legal observers. One deals with the government's contention that Mr. Skilling violated his legal obligation to provide ââ¬Å"honest servicesâ⬠to Enron shareholders because he lied about the energy-trading company's financial condition before it collapsed into bankruptcy in December 2001. Mr. Skilling's attorneys maintained that prosecutors misapplied the honest-services statute, arguing their client hadn't lied and didn't cheat Enron or its shareholders. The second issue involves Mr. Skilling's claim that he wasn't able to get a fair trial in Houston, site of Enron's headquarters, because of anger in the community over the company's collapse. Daniel Petrocelli, Mr. Skilling's lead attorney, said the Supreme Court's decision means the defense ââ¬Å"will finally get an opportunity for a full, frank and fair hearingâ⬠of issues that led to ââ¬Å"Jeff's wrongful conviction.â⬠The Justice Department declined to comment. The Supreme Court earlier accepted for review another appeal related to corporate honest-services fraud. That case involves the conviction of former Hollinger International Inc. Chairman Conrad Black. Oral arguments in Mr. Black's Supreme Court case are scheduled for December. No date has been set for oral arguments in the case of Mr. Skilling, who is in federal prison in Colorado. The question of what constitutes honest-services fraud is under debate. ââ¬Å"The lack of clear guidanceâ⬠on the statute ââ¬Å"has been a problem in this area of criminal law for years,â⬠said Mark Biros, a former federal prosecutor and now a partner in the Washington office of Proskauer Rose LLP. ââ¬Å"It would be helpful to everyone if the Supreme Court steps in.â⬠Mr. Biros said the court might be considering treating the Skilling and Black appeals as companion cases. The justices could use the two cases to provide a broader interpretation of the honest-services issue, he said. The court's agreement to hear Mr. Skilling's arguments on the location of his trial surprised Columbia Law School professor John Coffee. ââ¬Å"The area of venue is something the Supreme Court hasn't touched for a long, long time,â⬠Mr. Coffee said. If the court agrees with Mr. Skilling, whose attorneys argued for a venue change before the trial, it could have a wide impact. In the 2006 trial, Mr. Skilling and former Enron Chairman Kenneth Lay were convicted of fraud and conspiracy. Mr. Skilling was also convicted of insider trading. Shortly after the trial, Mr. Lay died of heart-related problems and his conviction was vacated. Former Enron chief financial officer Andrew Fastow, 44, was sentenced to six years in prison Tuesday, more than two years after he pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy for his involvement in the energy company's 2001 collapse. Jurors in the Houston trial of Enron founder Kenneth Lay and former CEO Jeffrey Skilling reached a verdict Thursday, the sixth day of deliberations, finding both defendants guilty of most conspiracy and fraud charges.
